The Houston Rockets worst case scenario has now happened. ESPN reported earlier today that All-Star center Yao Ming has elected to have surgery on his foot, which will sideline him for the likely 2009-10 season. Yao’s surgery is similar to what Cavs center Zydrunas Illgauskas had nearly a decade ago. Before today, word out of Houston was that the Rockets would look to bring in another post player, and now that seems certain. There is a possibility the Rockets will look to land Tyson Chandler from the Hornets via a trade.

In other news, free agent point guard Andre Miller looks to have two teams interested in his services. While the Knicks have talked about offering a 1 year contract, the Indiana Pacers may now be entering into the mix. The Pacers may look to upgrade their point guard position, given the fact Jarett Jack has signed an offer sheet by the Toronto Raptors.

The Lamar Odom to Miami talks seem to be heating up, with both Dwyane Wade and Pat Riley speaking on the matter in the last 24 hours. Riley did confirm that the team was in talks with Odom to return, while Wade expressed his desire to have his former teammate back in South Beach.

As bright as the Houston Rockets’ future looked just a few short months ago, when they were battling the Lakers in the playoffs, things have changed for the worst. Yahoo! Sports is reporting today that center Yao Ming could likely be out for the 2009-10 season due to his lingering broken left foot that is still not healing correctly, and there is possibility that his career is in jeopardy as well. The Rockets have dealt with devestating injuries to stars before, with Tracy McGrady being in and out of the lineup over the past few seasons. Yao has not played an entire 82 game season since the 2003-04 campaign, though last year he appeared in 77 of the 82 regular season contests. [click to continue…]
