The NBA had the national spotlight on Christmas Day, and displayed some of their biggest stars in marquee games around the country. While some games turned out to be more competitive than expected(Knicks vs. Heat), others wound up to be a one-sided affair(Lakers vs. Cavs). Check out the 5 things we took away from Christmas Day in the NBA.

5. The Knicks have no real identity.

I used to think the Knicks wanted Lebron James because of the marketing money. While that is still probably true, the basketball purists have King James are their wishlist because he gives the team something they have been lacking since the days of Patrick Ewing, and to a point Allen Houston/Latrell Sprewell — A Closer. New York has a roster of good, young, talent. Many of them who are playing with expiring contracts this season, and might not be around for the Lebron sweepstakes next July anyway. On a big stage though, such as yesterday against Dwyane Wade’s Heat, there was no true superstar for the hometeam that could answer the bell. I wonder if the Knicks fans will be ok if Lebron says no to them, and all they are able to land next year is Carlos Boozer and Joe Johnson? [click to continue…]

Flashback – 1999 NBA Finals

by The Boss on June 7, 2009

in Knicks, Spurs, Throwbacks, Videos

The 1999 NBA Finals was a series of teams going in completely different directions. For San Antonio, the 1999 season was the start of an amazing run, in which David Robinson, Tim Duncan and company entered the championship round winners of 10 consecutive playoff games. The Knicks, meanwhile, were an 8 seed that pulled off the improbable in the first round, defeating Miami without Patrick Ewing. That momentum carried them to a miracle-like run through the East, but they were denied a title.

Notes from the Video – Phil Jackson was introduced as the Lakers coach 10 years ago this week, as he attempts to win his 4th title in 6 Finals appearances with Los Angeles.

Note 2 – Isiah Thomas and Peter Vescey were complete homers for the Knicks.
