The Golden State Warriors have a problem on their hands, and his name is Stephen Jackson. The talented wingman said late last week he wants out of Oakland, and even went as far as to list potential new teams he would like to play for next year. There is only two slight problems with Jackson’s request.
First, he signed a multi-year contract extension to stay in Golden State last year. That deal will shy many potential suitors away, as it would knock them out of being a player in free agency for the next few seasons. Jackson is also 35 entering this season, and many feel on the downside of his career. While he could help a contender like the Spurs, Heat, or Cavaliers in their quest for a NBA Title, he does not come as affordable as they would like.
One team that may be interested in bringing him in however seems to be the Dallas Mavericks. DallasBasketball.com reports Warriors coach Don Nelson is exploring trade options with the Mavericks regarding both Stephen Jackson as well as Monta Ellis. Golden State is going full force in their youth movement, and want the ability to develop their new young talent.
