Whether or not the Denver Nuggets are able to come back from a 2-1 deficit to win this Western Conference Finals remains to be seen, but what we do know is that this team has had a successful season regardless. To appreciate what this team has done, you have to first look back at the 2007-08 Nuggets. Denver went 50-32 during the regular season in 07-08, and heading into their playoff series with the Lakers last year, had visions of a competitive series. Things didn’t quite work out that way, and Los Angeles swept Denver in four games.

The obvious change regarding personnel from last year to this was the addition of Chauncey Billips, who was acquired in a the trade of the season in November for Allen Iverson. The addition of Chris Anderson, formerly of the Hornets, gave Denver an energetic, lanky defender who, in essence, took the place of Marcus Camby. The team’s cornerstone, Carmelo Anthony, saw his scoring go down from 25.7 points in 07-08 to 22.8 this season, however he has enjoyed his best overall season of his career. His All-Star snub this season seemed to drive Anthony even more, and his play the second half of the season and playoffs has been among the league’s best. [click to continue…]

Last Monday, I ranked the remaining playoff teams in my confidence in them from 8 to 1, and I have to start off by saying publicly here that I was wrong about the Orlando Magic. The Magic had blown a few leads in the playoffs leading up to last week, and had given two games away in the series against Boston, but when it was all on the line, down 3-2, they won two big elimination games, including closing out the defending champs on their court. Now that we are down to four teams, we will really be able to focus on the strengths and weaknesses of each, but for today, here are the four big question marks around each club.

Starting tonight, there will be a number of teams facing elimination from the NBA Playoffs. While this has been one of the most exciting first rounds in a while, quite a few teams are currently down 3-1 in their series, and face quite a hole to climb out of if they want [...]

Watching the weekend’s playoff games, there was one that told a more telling story than the other seven series openers. When the Boston Celtics to the court for warm ups against the Chicago Bulls Saturday, something was missing. I sat in front of my TV, purely watching the body language of the [...]

This is the last Monday prior to the start of the NBA Playoffs, and my last chance to reflect on the NBA regular season. This 2008-09 season has been full of ups and downs, from highlights(Lebron and Cleveland exceed all expectations) to low lights(injuries end season of Amare early). In between all [...]
