The morning after the Orlando Magic took a commanding 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals, I checked out both ends of the fan spectrum. First, the joyous fans and commenters on ThirdQuarterCollapse.com were breaking down the historical odds that are now stacked up against the Cavs. In case you don’t know, only 8 teams in NBA History have come back from down 3-1 to win the series. That is a record of 8-182 since 1947 to be exact. Something that just doesn’t happen often.

On the other end, the loyal Cleveland supporters at RealCavsFans.com were rallying behind their team online, encouaging each other that things can, and will turn around for this team of destiny. One thing I know for certain, if the Cavs come back from down 3-1 and win 3 in a row in a series they really could have been swept in, I would be shocked. Then again, as my partner Justin told me, NOTHING in the NBA should shock me.

Well, just about no one expected this, except myself. Orlando should have won this series already, if you take away the miracle last second jumper Lebron James makes in Game 3. The Magic’s 116-114 victory last night was a snapshot of why I thought weeks ago that the Cavaliers worst possible match up of all the teams left playing in the post season was the Orlando Magic. Less than 24 hours after announcing it was bolting Denver for Los Angeles because of a scheduling conflict, World Wrestling Entertainment was distributing a promotional image of chairman Vince McMahon and Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke. Superimposed above a photo of McMahon smiling beatifically was a halo; a shot of a dour-looking Kroenke [...]

Four Burning Questions about the NBA Playoffs

May 18, 2009

Monday Morning Point Guard
5/18/09
Last Monday, I ranked the remaining playoff teams in my confidence in them from 8 to 1, and I have to start off by saying publicly here that I was wrong about the Orlando Magic. The Magic had blown a few leads in the playoffs leading up to last week, and had [...]

Yao Ming is Dwight Howard’s Kryptonite

April 8, 2009

Forget about Nate Robinson, Houston center Yao Ming should wear a green jersey every time he suits up against Orlando’s Dwight Howard. In 9 career games against Howard, Yao is 7-2, and has held Howard under his career averages. Howard is managing only 12.2 points and 9.8 rebounds against Yao, while the Rockets big man [...]
