Though the Rockets sent star guard Tracy McGrady home this past weekend, there is more to the story than what both sides are saying. While T-Mac’s representatives will not say he wanted more playing time, McGrady was not happy with being benched. The Rockets have been very political in their answers to media questions regarding the future of McGrady, and secretly would love nothing more than to trade him for viable young talent and/or draft picks. Various reports have surfaced today regarding a potential blockbuster deal involving the Bulls, Blazers, and Jazz. The Bulls would receive All Star forward Carlos Boozer from Utah, the Blazers would get Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich, while Utah would get Tyrus Thomas. The Jazz prefer to have Paul Millsap than Boozer, and making the deal would free up more money to possibly bring back the free agent.
In other news, all signs are looking at former Suns forward Grant Hill signing with the New York Knicks. The Knicks seem to beat out both the Boston Celtics in their bid to sign the veteran.
Former Celtics guard Stephon Marbury is not getting any bites thus far in free agency, and may opt to play in Europe instead next fall. Marbury rejected Boston’s initial offer of $1.3 million to remain a reserve, thinking there would be more interest on the open market. There were some rumors early on that the Wizards and Heat would be interested, but those proved to be false.
Another veteran free agent guard that is getting interest in Andre Miller. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Miller and the 76ers are way off regarding money for a new deal. Miller and his agent are expecting a 3 year deal in the $10 million per season range, while the Sixers are thinking $5-6 million per. With the Blazers looking to bring in Kirk Hinrich, Miller’s alternatives may become limited fast.
