Blazers trade offers

Watching the NBA Western Conference Finals, there are a lot of similarities between the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trailblazers. Both teams have young stars(Carmelo Anthony, Brandon Roy) who have shown flashes of greatness, but clearly cannot do it alone. Both have solid depth, and a decent mix of veterans to offset the young stars. However, Denver did not skyrocket into legit title contender until they added Chauncey Billups in November, at the expense of moving Allen Iverson. The Blazers may be looking to do a similar deal.

Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard has been known to be ready to pull the trigger on a deal or two(He once made 6 trades in 1 day). Portland has a team that is on the cusp of breaking through out West, but needs to bring in a veteran scorer that has playoff experience. Two players that could certainly help them would be Orlando’s Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Kidd of the Mavericks. Turkoglu would cause matchup problems on the wing, as well as provide clutch long distance shooting for Portland, to free up Brandon Roy. Kidd’s veteran leadership would certainly help a young team in their drive to the post season again. Portland may also look to bring in a veteran post player who can help them like Boris Diaw as well.

In other news, The Times Picayune reports former Hornets guard Jannero Pargo is in talks with New Orleans to return to the team next season. Pargo, who is currently a free agent, is expected to draw interest from many teams this offseason, however his inital preference would be to play alongside Chris Paul once again.

Friday night’s NBA action was headlined by the Portland Trailblazers winning their 8th straight game over the Lakers in the Rose Garden, in front of a near sell out crowd. LayupDrill.com’s own Diane Tutell was at the game getting photos and video footage, and will have the exclusive audio/video up real soon. The 106-98 final score will stay with Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Lakers for a while. With the win, Portland improved to 51-28, and tied with the Spurs for fourth in the West, just 1/2 game behind the Rockets for 3rd. The Lakers, meanwhile, fell 1 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the best record overall in the league, and home court throughout the playoffs. A bigger problem for the Lakers is the fact that, while they will say all the right things about loving a chance to see the Blazers again in the playoffs, you would be hard pressed to believe that.
