After 16 seasons in the NBA, Alonzo Mourning announced his retirement today. It was only a few weeks ago that I pondered whether or not
Alonzo Mourning was a Hall of Famer or not, and now that his career has officially come to an end, I feel it is only right to re-visit this topic.
Those who were close to Alonzo Mourning in the locker room have said he was the greatest teammate they ever played with. His passion for the game of basketball was second to none on the court, and his passion to help those in need was his true calling off the court. My first memories of Mourning came nearly 20 years ago, as Mourning was the dominant force in the paint for John Thompson’s Georgetown Hoyas. In honor of the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, President Barrack Obama, I have assembled a comprehensive list of the 44 Greatest NBA Players of my lifetime. Over my lifetime, some of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen have graced the court. You will see some names missing from this list that played before my time, such as Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Rick Barry or Bill Russell.
With that being said, check out the list, which ranks the players by what they have accomplished in their career, whether still playing or retired, and not on potential.
