One year after signing a free agent contract with the Rockets, former Lakers swingman Trevor Ariza was shipped to New Orleans this weekend as part of a four player deal. Ariza and Aaron Brooks of the Rockets reportedly never got on the same page last season, and Rockets brass did not want to take the gamble of another.
In other news, the next potential big free agent(next summer) could be Carmelo Anthony. Denver has offered the All-Star forward a 3 year extension worth a reported $65 million dollars, however Anthony is taking his time making the decision if he will ink it, or explore the market. It is no secret the Knicks will be targeting ‘Melo, looking to team up Anthony with newly signed Amare Stoudemire and Spurs guard Tony Parker for their version of “The Big 3″.

As we enter the dog days of summer, the lull of the NBA free agent season may be picking up very soon. Some very big names are still looking for work on this last day of July. Perhaps the biggest name left out there right now is Shaquile O’ Neal. Shaq has the Celtics, Mavericks, and Spurs at the top of his list, while Atlanta, New Jersey, and Chicago could potentially be longshots. Boston has shown interest in O’Neal as well as Kwame Brown, however they can only offer the veterans minimum. That, for now, is something O’Neal is not interested in playing for, and he is holding out hope teams will be able to work out a sign and trade with the Cavaliers for his services.
Another player getting attention from many teams is Lakers guard Shannon Brown. Brown is very high on the Knicks wish list, with many close to the situation still holding out hope that New York will be able to make things work in the coming days.
