Former NBA head coach and current ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy thinks the 2010-11 Heat could be the best regular season team ever. When speaking with The Miami Herald this weekend, Van Gundy used words such as “unguardable” and indefensible” to describe the current roster, which boasts matchup problems for virtually every team in the league. Van Gundy believes not only will the Heat break the 1995-96 Bulls 72-10 regular season mark, but they could also challenge the 1971-72 Lakers 33 game winning streak.
While I know Van Gundy probably believes most of what he says, I don’t agree with him on either of these. In today’s media, the circus that would be around the team as they approached either of those milestones would be something we have never seen in recent NBA history, and the pressure too great. I do look for the Heat to secure the best overall record in the league, but 70 wins is a stretch.
