The Playoffs tip off today, and the first round matchups out West could produce some classic games. LayupDrill.com makes our picks for each series, and there are a few surprises in the mix.

Lakers vs. Thunder
The Pick: Lakers in 6
Why: Kevin Durant will finally get the national attention he deserves. Casual hoops fans may have never seen KD in action, but he will light up the defending champs a few times in this series. While Durant won’t have enough help to beat the Lakers, the young Thunder will have nothing to feel bad about in their showing.

No Roy, No Problem?

News broke late tonight that Portland will have to attempt to advance out of the first round without their franchise player. Brandon Roy will be sidelined once he undergoes surgery to repair a tear in his knee. The Blazers had been thriving since Roy went out, as they were able to end up 50-32, and secure the 6th seed overall in the West. While many felt the Suns/Blazers series had the potential of going the distance, do they feel the same now Portland will be without Roy?

In other news, the 76ers have parted ways with Eddie Jordan, after just one season. Philly went 27-55 in Jordans only year at the helm, and fell far short of the playoff expectations the franchise hoped. No word as an immediate replacement, though the usual suspects (Avery Johnson, Jeff Van Gundy) will be rumored.
