Acie Law Interview

Most College Basketball fans remember watching Acie Law explode on the scene at Texas A+M University in 2005 and 2006. It was there that Law earned the named “Captain Clutch” for his knack at taking over games at will. Law made a epic 3 point shot to defeat Texas that I believe helped get Billy Gillispie his job at Kentucky. LayupDrill.com caught up recently with Acie to talk about life in the NBA, playing on the Atlanta Hawks, and advice he would give young players coming up today. Read more

Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury

Over ten years ago now, Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury formed one of the best young tandems in NBA history for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Though it became infamous in its time, at the time they were one of the bigger wonders on the NBA world. And filled with potential. Read more

Youth is Served

The NBA’s Southeast Division is perhaps the most promising division in the league. The emergence of the Magic, the development of the Hawks, and the rebirth of the Heat are all storylines of the league this year. Sure, you still have the decline of the Wizards, and the Bobcats who cannot seem to get out of their own way, but both of those teams have talent, and could turn things around fast. Read more

8 Biggest Stories of 2008
A LayupDrill.com Exclusive

As we close out 2008 today, we get a chance to look back and reflect on a very eventful year, both in our country, and in the sport we love. The NBA had quite a year, and these 8 stories made the biggest waves.

8. Pau Gasol traded to the Lakers
When this trade was announced, I knew the Lakers had just pulled off the trade of the year, and perhaps decade. Gasol was moved on 2/1/08 for Kwame Brown, Aaron Mckie, James Crittendon, and first round picks in 2008(Marc Gasol) and 2010. This deal turned the Lakers from pretender to contender, and paid off dividends immediately, as LA made the Finals last year. This year, the Lakers entered as favorites once again to make it to the championship.

7. Houston Rockets win 22 games in a row
The Rockets had an amazing run earlier this year, winning 22 games in a row, and showing their fans and the league what they were capable of doing when Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming were both healthy. Houston would eventually have their streak ended by the Boston Celtics. Read more

In The Paint - Central Division

Lebron James
In The Paint: Central Division
The Race for 2nd Place is on

In a division that back in the day was dominated by Jordan’s Bulls, Detroits Bad Boys, and Reggie Miller’s Pacers, a new era has clearly taken over. Lebron and the Cavs are heads and shoulders the class of the Central, and aspirations to win the title are realistic for fans of the Cavs. The number one question heading into 2009 for Cleveland is does Lebron have enough help to win in the postseason? The addition of Mo Williams has paid off big dividends early, but the lack of depth in the front court will hurt Cleveland against Boston. If Cleveland can add a veteran big man who can give them quality minutes the second half of the year and postseason, they will be a huge threat to Boston. Cleveland fans meanwhile have to hope that their fears of Lebron James leaving will be laid to rest after this season, and James will resign with Cleveland to forego the free agent frenzy that would surround the team for the 2009-10 season. Don’t Count The Mavericks Out Yet

Words by Fred “The F-Bomb” Richani

Remember what the knock was on the Dallas Mavericks the last couple of years?

They’re not mentally tough. Dirk Nowitski is soft. Jason Kidd is too old. Erick Dampier plays like a scrub…

Wait that last one is true—most of the time. You see, the Mavericks are playing better ball under Rick Carlisle than most would have expected, after dismissing Avery Johnson. What most do not know either is that the Mavs have won seven out of their last ten games and that there is a guard that is lighting defenses up. No, it’s not Jason Kidd. It is a Jason, but he’s no kid. Former Dallas starting guard and now pseudo back up Jason Terry has quietly been averaging 21 points, four assists, and three rebounds per game—off the bench.
