It may have taken a while, but the Nets finally got their man. Reports out of New Jersey surfaced Wednesday that the team has come to terms with former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. Johnson, who last worked with ESPN, took Dallas to the NBA Finals in 2006, and had a 191-70 regular season mark with the club.
Now that we know the Nets have filled their vacancy, what about the other openings around the league?
Cleveland – As of last night, Tom Izzo had not made a decision, one way or another, about taking the Cavs job. One would think he would only think of making that move if he had some certainty that LeBron James was coming back, right?
Atlanta – The Hawks reportedly are in no rush to hire a coach, and will go through the interview process with multiple candidates as the summer goes on. The leading candidates were believed to be ABC analyst Mark Jackson and Mavs assistant Dwyane Casey.
L.A Clippers – Don’t be surprised if the Clippers turn to former Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson to be their next head coach. Sampson has ties with key players on the team already, including Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon.
