As much as fans in Utah, San Antonio, and Atlanta want to think they still have a shot in their respective second round series, the sad reality is their seasons will be over in about a weeks time. The Jazz, Spurs, and Hawks are simply overmatched, and watching the completion of the series could be anti-climatic at most. With exception to the Spurs, whom I expect to win at least 2 games at home before bowing out, the Jazz and Hawks will likely get swept.
That would leave us the most intriguing series of the entire playoffs(NBA Finals included) in my view, Cleveland vs. Boston. Literally everyone had crowned LeBron James and company the team coming out of the East this season, and some had already prepared the NBA Title for him. Sound familiar? Last spring we were saying the same thing, until they ran into the Orlando Magic. While I am not sold that Boston will win this series, if they can take care of business at home(win games 3 and 4), Cleveland will NOT win 3 straight to stave off elimination.
This Celtics team is not as good as the Cavs on paper or the court. Cleveland is younger, deeper, and hungrier. What Boston does have going for them is that they have been where LeBron wants to get to(the top). KG, Paul Pierce, Rasheed, and Ray Ray all know what it takes to win right now. The Cavs brought Shaq in for moments like this , but this isn’t the same Shaq of even three seasons ago.
Rajon Rondo has had an incredible postseason thus far, and if Boston continues to get anything out of their bench key guys (Wallace, Marquis Daniels) things could get very interesting.
Don’t look now, but if I was a betting man, a repeat of the 2009 NBA Finals is looking more and more likely.
