Even though Phil Jackson is currently knee deep in trying to win a NBA title with the Lakers, his name is being mentioned for two prominent coaching vacancies in the Eastern Conference, with both potentially involving LeBron James. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls both are in the LeBron hunt, and both realize in order to lure LeBron, they will need a top flight coach. Phil Jackson would only likely consider a move from Los Angeles if the money and the opportunity was there to win soon.
Phil’s contract is up at the end of the playoffs, and it has already been reported Lakers ownership has asked Jackson to take a paycut next season. Jackson earned $12.5 million this year, and he will reportedly be offered between $5-8 million to coach next year in L.A. Would a chance to win yet another title, should they win this year, be enough to keep Phil on the Lakers sidelines? Stay tuned.
