As the Mavericks and Spurs continue to do battle this week in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, one storyline that could be developing is the future of Tim Duncan. The 4 time NBA Champ has not publicly hinted at the notion of retirement, but then again, everything Tim does is under the radar. The San Antonio Express News dropped a feature story over the weekend on this very angle, and after reading it, it makes alot of sense.
Here is an excerpt from the story,
It will be sudden when it comes, and there won’t be a farewell tour. Tim Duncan will decide his knee hurts too much, and that he’d prefer to see his kids instead of the Sacramento airport, and he will be gone.
That kind of exit will fit with how he played, and it will also fit with tonight. After all, too many think he’s already on his way out.
Win or lose, it would be sad to see Timmy go, even if you arent a Spurs fan. Arguably the best big man of his generation(Shaq included), Tim has never got the props he deserves of being an all-time great, and likely won’t until he stops playing.
