How Many Games will the Nets Win?

by The Boss on March 8, 2010

The New Jersey Nets sit at the time of this article at 7-55, all alone in the single digit win column in the league. The next worst team record wise is the Minnesota Timberwolves, yet they have double the amount of wins. New Jersey can take some solace in knowing they have beat their neighbors, the Knicks in 2 of their 4 meetings this year, and hold a very impressive win over the Celtics. Other than that, it has been a season to forget.

Looking at their remaining schedule, it will be tough for the Nets to not win at least 3 more games, and avoid the dubious distinction of tying or breaking the 1972-73 76ers at 9-73 overall. Their remaining games, along with my predictions for the outcome are below(projected wins are in bold):

at Memphis
at Dallas
at OKC
at Houston
Atlanta
at Philly
Toronto
Miami
Sacramento
Detroit
at Chicago
San Antonio
Phoenix
New Orleans
at Washington
at Milwaukee
Chicago
at Indiana
Charlotte
at Miami

I sprinkled a few upsets in there, but four more wins would have NJ end at 11-71, and 2 games clear of the record. The good news for Nets fans is that they will be major players in the free agent market this summer, whether they are able to lure Lebron James to NJ or not. More likely to end up suiting up for the Nets opening night next year would be Carlos Boozer, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, or even Tracy McGrady. Either way, a few top free agents, along with a lottery pick should make the Nets much improved in 2010-11.
