With Hornets star guard Chris Paul still not cleared to return from his knee injury, New Orleans has seen the development of rookie Darren Collison in the increased playing time, and has a slight dilemma on their hands. The former UCLA Bruin has averaged 22 points and 8 assists a game over the past 5 games, including a balanced 17 points and 14 assists effort against Memphis, followed up by a 32 point outburst in a losing cause against San Antonio.

The Hornets upcoming offseason will be an interesting one, and there is no doubt they will receive inquiries about the availability of both their point guards. The question yet to be answered is if teams start calling about Chris Paul, will ownership(who are looking to save money), listen more now, and opt for the future with Collison, or trade the young budding star in favor of the All-Star? Stay tuned…

One team that might show interest in one of the Hornets guards are the Lakers. The LA Times reports Lakers guard Shannon Brown is expected to opt out after this year, seeking a long term deal with the team. While Laker brass haven’t commented on Brown’s upcoming move, there are thoughts collectively that Los Angeles will look to improve at the point guard role. Derek Fisher and/or Jordan Farmar may be playing with Kobe for the last time this season, and if the Hornets make either Collison or Paul available, calls could be made.
