The trade rumors circulating the future home of Suns forward Amare Stoudemire has been on again, and off again, for over a year. If you remember, it was this time last season we were talking about how the Suns were going to build their franchise around Amare, after firing Terry Porter as head coach. Porter was the fall guy for the failed attempt of playing Amare alongside Shaq on the Suns front line. Now, a year later, rumors are circulating around the net that the Cavaliers may be looking at stealing the headlines during the All-Star break with a blockbuster deal. The proposed trade would send Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas along with promising forward J.J Hickson to Phoenix for Stoudemire. Cleveland would then look to lock up both Lebron and Stoudemire to long term deals, pairing the two dynamic stars together for years to come. How would Amare and Shaq co-exist on Lebron’s team? Hopefully much better than when they were on Steve Nash’s.
Cleveland isn’t the only team interested in Stoudemire at the deadline. The Miami Heat are also still very much interested in acquiring Stoudemire, with hopes that landing either Amare or Raptors big man Chris Bosh would be enough to keep Dwyane Wade in town for the rest of his career.
If the Cavs or Heat aren’t able to secure Stoudemire before the trade deadline, they may both make other moves. Cleveland is believed to also be looking at the potential of trading for Wizards forward Antawn Jamison as well. Washington seems to be in the process of a fire sale of sorts, as late last week they traded Caron Butler and Deshawn Stevenson to Dallas for Josh Howard.
