A LayupDrill.com Exclusive
The 2009-10 NBA Season is only a day old, and yet there are some things we already know.
1. The Cavaliers will not go 82-0
2. Ron Artest needs to find a new barber in L.A ASAP.
3. Gilbert Arenas is back 100 percent.
Before tip off last night, LayupDrill.com had prepared a preview of the season, stocked with all sorts of predictions sure to go wrong. If somehow any of these wind up becoming true, you read it here first….
Rookie of the Year – Tryreke Evans. I think Evans will make Memphis proud by having back-to-back former Tigers win the NBA’s top freshman prize. His natural talent and NBA ready body will allow him to score at ease, and being on a bad team, the improvement they make will be credited to him pretty quick.
Coach of the Year – Flip Saunders, Washington. The Wizards will not only be in the playoffs, but the 4th seed in the East. Saunders commands the respect of the veterans, and, at least for the short term, keeps order in the capital city.
Comeback Player of the Year – Gilbert Arenas, Washington. As much as I hope I am wrong on this, and Tracy McGrady can arrive in December as his old 2003-04 T-Mac, I still don’t think that will be enough to take this award away from Agent Zero.
Most Valuable Player – Lebron James, Cleveland. Kobe may have his own personal agenda in trying to win this award again this year, and his hopes could rest on the Lakers having the best overall record in the league. However, Lebron will wind up with the prize…again.
East Playoff Teams:
Listed in order of predicted finish…
1. Boston
2. Cleveland
3. Orlando
4. Washington
5. Atlanta
6. Miami
7. Chicago
8. Toronto
East Finals:
Boston over Orlando in 6.
The 1 seed in the East will be more valuable than ever this year, as it will mean you won’t have to face one of the other two super teams until the East Finals. I believe the Magic will have the Cavs number once again this year, but this time Dwight Howard will fall short to the veteran duo of KG and Sheed in the ECF.
West Playoff Teams:
1. Lakers
2. San Antonio
3. Portland
4. Dallas
5. Utah
6. Denver
7. New Orleans
8. Phoenix
West Finals:
Lakers over Spurs in 7
This may be the best Spurs team in years, and a potential series with the Lakers in the West Finals will be a true classic. Homecourt will be the difference in this one, as Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum prove too much in Staples in the deciding game.
So, that means I am predicting a rematch of the 2007 NBA Finals, between the Celtics and Lakers.

I agree with the predictions above except I think it will be the Blazers and Lakers in the western conference finals. I think the Spurs improved yet they are still too old to make it that far. Duncan is not the same anymore and it showed against the Bulls last night. A quicker and younger team will beat them. If they are to make it anywhere Richard Jefferson will need to step it up.
