The signing of Allen Iverson by the Memphis Grizzlies has already paid off for the franchise in a big way. Only 48 hours after officially announcing that Iverson was a member of the team, sales for season tickets were through the roof. All new season ticket purchases in Memphis were receiving a free Iverson Grizzlies jersey, in an attempt to make their newest superstar feel at home, as well as market his jersey to the masses.
Iverson’s deal with the Grizzlies is looked on as a win-win situation for both sides. The Grizzlies get one of the biggest names in the league over the last 20 years to dawn their jersey. Perhaps more importantly, they get an Allen Iverson who has plenty to prove. Many have written off The Answer, saying he is past his prime, and his tenure in Detroit has tarnished his reputation. Iverson, meanwhile, believes he still has some good years left, and he will have a great opportunity in Memphis to show and prove.
In other news, the New York Times reports that the Knicks have signed former Lakers guard Sun Yue. Yue was drafted by the defending champs in the second round of the 2007 draft, though he never really fit into coach Phil Jackson’s plans. Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni had reportedly always been intrigued by Yue’s potential, and is very pleased the team was able to secure his services.

Thought it would be fun to have Iverson in Detroit. The strong egos would contain him and his scoring would help. They didn’t and it didn’t. Glad he is gone. He was fun to watch, but losing was no fun. Good bye Allen.
