Two small market teams could be in talks to make a big splash on the upcoming 2009-10 NBA season. The Pioneer Press reports the Memphis Grizzlies may be looking at trading pending free agent Rudy Gay. Gay, who may be looking at a big payday when his upcoming contract runs out, would be an ideal fit for the Wolves. Memphis, meanwhile, could be interested in landing Ricky Rubio. Whether or not Rubio would want to play in Memphis without Gay remains to be seen.

In other news, the Dallas Morning News reports Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki’s ex-fiancee was sentenced to five years in prison for violating her probation. Cristal Taylor has stated she is pregnant with the child of Nowitzki.

More sad off the court news comes from Houston. Yahoo! Sports reports Heat forward Michael Beasley has checked himself into a rehab hospital for substance abuse and psychological problems.

Wow. I honestly think that’d be a horrible trade for Minnesota. You’ve got to look at the opportunity you would be giving away for Rubio. First off he gives you the talent, skills, yada yada yada. But he is also one of the few VERY SKILLED Europeans, and could be possibly one of the greatest Euro basketball players.

yeah but then you would have a starting five of Flynn, Gay, Brewer, Love and Jefferson. That’s a very, VERY nice young core to build around. Rubio may turn out to be a giant bust. Just because you can fling a few behind the back passes against a bunch of sloven Czechs in Eurpoe, it doesnt mean you can pull that shit off successfully against super athletic black dudes.
