The Greece powerhouse Olympiakos may have made their biggest splash in acquiring NBA talent today. The team signed former Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza as well as former Rockets guard Von Wafer. Kleiza agreed to a 2 year deal, worth a reported $12.2 million dollars, with a player option to become a free agent after next season. Wafer signed a 2 year deal as well, worth $5 million dollars. The Olympiakos had interest in Nate Robinson as well as Allen Iverson earlier this summer, however both have shunned any offers to play overseas.
In other news, the David Lee contract negotiations seem to be going nowhere fast. The team has put out word around the league that they are not interested in a sign and trade for Lee. Lee’s camp states the first choice of the forward is to remain a Knick. However, as of now, both sides are far apart in terms of money and years. The Knicks want to remain viable in the 2010 Free Agent market, and believe any long term, lucrative deal for Lee would compromise that.
