The Portland Trailblazers took a big step in making certain their core of young players remains in tact for years to come. ESPN reports Brandon Roy and the team have agreed to a five year contract extension, worth $80 million dollars. Roy’s deal afford the Blazers the ability to re-sign other current players, such as Greg Oden and Lemarcus Aldridge, when their deals come due, as well as keep them competitive in the free agent market in upcoming summers.
In other news, the Miami Heat have scrapped plans on bringing in a veteran point guard, such as Allen Iverson or Jamaal Tinsley for now. The Palm Beach Post reports Pat Riley has put the sole focus on the team being able to resign Dwyane Wade to a max contract extension next summer, as well as have the team bring in a big name free agent.
The New York Knicks are looking at adding a veteran wingman to the mix, and though they lost out on Grant Hill last month, it seems they are turning their sights on Jerry Stackhouse. The free agent has had his name pop up in talks over the last week, with the Nuggets, Pistons, and Knicks being most interested in his services.
