If you are a fan of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball, then the names Rick Pitino and Billy Gillispie ring a bell for different reasons. This week, though, they had something in common: Making the news for the wrong reasons.
First, you have Pitino, who, against his attorney’s advice, conducted an interview and melted down. Pitino, who became upset when tapes released of Karen Cypher speaking to the police about his sexual affair with her from 2003 hit the internet. Pitino stated
“Everything that’s been printed, everything that’s been reported, everything that’s been breaking in the news on the day Ted Kennedy died is 100 percent a lie, a lie,” Pitino said in a hastily called news conference. “All of this has been a lie, a total fabrication of the truth.”
Pitino went as far as to compare basketball to the economy in it’s importance of things we need to focus on, instead of his little “indiscretion”.
Meanwhile, yesterday news hit in Kentucky that former Wildcats coach Billy Gillispie had been arrested(again) for DUI. Gillispie was pulled over early in the morning after cops saw his car driving erraticly. He refused to take a breathalyzer and was arrested.
The Wildcats current coach, John Calipari, hasn’t had the best offseason himself.
