The World Famous LayupDrill Rumor Mill
7/1/09 Part 2
The first big move of the free agent season has happened. Yahoo! Sports reports former Bulls guard Ben Gordon has agreed to terms with the Detroit Pistons, in a move that will pay Gordon $55 Million over the next five seasons. Gordon was a key component of Chicago’s playoff run this year, and proved to be one of the true clutch players in the league. The Pistons also made a splash earlier in the day, when they came to terms with forward Charlie Villaneuva, for 5 years and $35 Million dollars. The free agent signings of Gordon and Charlie V could spell the end of the Richard Hamilton and Teyshaun Prince era in Motown.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Cavaliers are going to do a full court press to land Rockets wing man Ron Artest. Lebron James personally visited with Artest Tuesday night, and made his pitch to land Ron Ron on behalf of the team.
The Hedo Turkoglu sweepstakes is now down to one team. With the Pistons moves earlier today and the Raptors deciding to look in another direction for help, all signs point to the Portland Trailblazers being able to sign Turkoglu next week. Hedo is looking for a contract in the ballpark of 11-12 Million per over four to five years.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are confident they will be able to land one of the two big men they covet this offseason, David Lee or Paul Millsap. Now that Carlos Boozer has decided to not opt out of his contract, the Jazz will look to trade Boozer. However, there is a possibility they wind up losing Millsap should the offers for him go too high.
Lamar Odom returing to the Lakers won’t be a slam dunk, contrary to what some in Los Angeles believe. Odom’s agent is looking for a four year deal worth $10 million a season, and there are only a few teams looking for a dynamic forward that can pay him that. The Blazers could possibly opt for Odom over Turkoglu should his pricetag go too high, and the Kings and Grizzlies also have expressed mild interest.
