The World Famous LayupDrill Rumor Mill

Nearly a week after the Orlando Magic had first made waves around the league with their move to bring in Brandon Bass, formerly of the Dallas Mavericks, they strike again. The team released a statement today confirming they would in fact be matching the offer the Mavericks had given to reserve center Marcin Gortat, thus keeping him in the fold for 2009-10. This move was not expected by many, though it does signify the sense or urgency the team is showing in their attempts to return to the NBA Finals next year, at any cost.
The Mavericks, who almost certianly thought they had their frontcourt upgrade all but locked up, now find themselves in an interesting position. Dallas two primary goals this offseason was to retain Jason Kidd and upgrade their frontcourt. Kidd was re-signed, however after losing out on both Shaq and now Gortat, Plan C may need to get moving. There are some who believe the Mavs may revisit talks with the Clippers over the availability of Marcus Camby. While L.A isn’t expected to give up the veteran center for cheap, Dallas has enough expendable players(anyone but Kidd and Dirk) to get it done. Then of course, there is the faint talks to a Michael Redd deal. This trade was first rumored during the winter months, however after Redd went down with a torn ACL, talks cooled.
In other news, Philly.com is reporting the Andre Miller to New York rumors are bogus. Agents for both Andre Miller and Chris Duhon denied any talks regarding a deal that would have the point guards switching teams.
The Chicago Bulls have found their replacement for Ben Gordon, at least for one season. In a statement released by the team, Chicago announced they had signed Jannero Pargo to a one year contract. The Hornets were also interested in Pargo, however in the end Chicago’s potential appealed more.
The Houston Chronicle reports today that Tracy Mcgrady will switch his uniform number from 1 to 3, in honor of his 3 Points Darfur project.
