The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying a last ditch effort to change the mind of Trevor Ariza. Ariza verbally agreed to a contract with the Rockets on Sunday, however free agents cannot sign with their new teams until tommorow. The Cavs are reportedly making a hard push, as documented by the talks that surfaced over the weekend about Lebron James personally recruiting Ariza himself. No word from Ariza’s camp whether or not he is giving it any thought as of yet.

After talks broke off between ESPN commentator Avery Johnson and the Pistons earlier today, Detroit has found their next head coach. Cavaliers assistant John Kuester has agreed to become the successor to Michael Curry in Detroit. Kuester is no stranger to the organization, as he served as an assistant to Larry Brown when he did his tour there earlier this decade. The Pistons first three choices turned down or withdrew their names from consideration over the past week. Doug Collins said he was not interested, and Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau did the same.

The Cavaliers have shifted their focus on acquiring a younger front court option to Joe Smith whom they had last season. Channing Frye looks to be the target, and both sides met yesterday to negotiate.

With the Lamar Odom contract negotiations in Los Angeles stalling, the first team looking to put their bid in for his services other than the champs could be coming as soon as Wednesday. Reports out of Portland are that the Blazers believe they can put together an offer that will land the free agent, and will look to shift from bringing in David Lee to Odom.

if Portland gets Odom….wow. What a starting five. That’s a team thats ready to contend right away, provided Oden continues to get better and stays healthy.
