As bright as the Houston Rockets’ future looked just a few short months ago, when they were battling the Lakers in the playoffs, things have changed for the worst. Yahoo! Sports is reporting today that center Yao Ming could likely be out for the 2009-10 season due to his lingering broken left foot that is still not healing correctly, and there is possibility that his career is in jeopardy as well. The Rockets have dealt with devestating injuries to stars before, with Tracy McGrady being in and out of the lineup over the past few seasons. Yao has not played an entire 82 game season since the 2003-04 campaign, though last year he appeared in 77 of the 82 regular season contests.
In other news, reports out of Minnesota indicate the Knicks made an agressive play to land the number five pick overall last week, offering up Wilson Chandler along with the 8th pick. New York began to turn the heat up on that move when it became clear that Ricky Rubio would be available at that spot.
ESPN.com reports today that the Bucks will allow forward Charlie Villanueva to become an unrestricted free agent, paving the way for his ability to sign with anyone. All signs point to the Cleveland Cavaliers bringing him in, however there may be some interest from other contenders as the days go by.
NY Newsday reports today that the Lakers may be turning their focus away from Jason Kidd and on to Knicks guard Nate Robinson. The restricted free agent is expected to draw interest from many teams, but the two front runners are both from California(Lakers and Kings). One of the reason the Lakers may shy away from Kidd is his pricetag. Teams are expected to offer Kidd in the range of $7-8 million a year, with the Mavericks and Blazers front runners.
One team that believes Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap is worth $10 Million a year seems to be the OKC Thunder. The Salt Lake Tribune report that Millsap could be offered a contract by the Thunder in the range of what his agent is asking for, putting pressure on the Jazz to counter.
