Spurs land Richard Jefferson

The first major move of the off-season belongs to the San Antonio Spurs, who acquired Richard Jefferson
from the Milwaukee Bucks today for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, and Fabricio Oberto. The Spurs were originally interested in Vince Carter of the Nets, however reports state New Jersey was not interested in the package offered. The Bucks were looking to shed payroll, and bringing in expiring contracts in exchange for Jefferson’s $29 million dollar contract was a good move for them.

San Antonio’s addition to Jefferson helps the Spurs core of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili contend for the title next year, as it’s obvious San Antonio’s staff knows the moment to win is right now. Jefferson can defend athletic wingmen out West like Trevor Ariza, Brandon Roy, and Carmelo Anthony. San Antonio will now turn their focus to adding a veteran big man to the fold, with rumored names from earlier in the offseason circulating around Antonio McDyess or Leon Powe.

I really like this deal for both teams….the Bucks clear cap room to be able to re-sign Sessions and Charlie V and that is what it is all about…these two along with Bogut are the future of this organization. I like the deal for the Spurs as well since they get a star player in R Jeff who can help them compete for the title next season. Now the Spurs need to sign a big man and they are set to go.
