This year’s NBA Draft class has seen players drop out of the lottery overnight in projections, due to poor workouts or bad first impressions. There are, however, a few players improving their draft stock. One of them is former Pitt star DeJuan Blair. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports Blair has been training over the last month in Florida, where he has got on a strict diet, and a rigid workout. Blair has seen his projections go from a mid-to late first rounder to a lottery pick on some draft boards.
The Lakers Game 2 victory over the Orlando Magic last night was not pretty, but they head to Florida up 2-0 in the series. Orlando had a golden opportunity to win the game late, when a Courtney Lee miss with less than a second to go would have stole the game for the Magic. The Magic face history not being on their side as they go home. Since the NBA adapted the 2-3-2 format in 1985, 11 of 12 teams that that have gone up 2-0 in the series have gone on to win the NBA Title. The lone exception was in the 2006 NBA Finals, when Dallas was up 2-0, and then lost 4 in a row against the Heat.
One player in the Finals that will certainly be getting a pay raise this summer is the Magic’s reserve center Marcin Gortat. According to the NY Post, the Knicks are very interested in bringing in the big man.
The Boston Globe reports that former Celtic star Antoine Walker is looking to make a return onto the court. Walker was cut by Memphis last season, and has not played in the league in nearly two and a half years.
In other news, the league announced that the city of Los Angeles will host the 2011 NBA All Star game. This will be the 5th time L.A will be host of the game, and the 1st since 2004. Next year, the game will be held in Dallas.
