After learning that the New York Knicks have purchased the Los Angeles Lakers’ first round selection in tonight’s draft, all you can do is wonder. By purchasing this pick, it seems as though a trade that would result in the Knicks moving up in the draft to select either Stephen Curry or Ricky Rubio. But, after hearing that the Grizzlies wanted both the fifth and sixth picks in return for the second overall pick, I’m not sure how far the Knicks could move up by just trading the eighth and 29th picks. A move is possible, but I wouldn’t expect the Knicks to jump too high.

Wake up, Joe Dumars
Just recently, there have been rumors circulating that the Phoenix Suns could flip Ben Wallace to the New Orleans Hornets for Tyson Chandler. Chandler was traded last year, but due to a foot injury, the trade was nixed.

While this may make sense for both teams, you have to wonder where the Pistons are in all of this. The Pistons have Kwame Brown, who will be coming back when he accepts his player option for the 2009-2010 season. However, Brown’s contract does expire at the end of 2010, which would bring the Hornets the cap relief that they want.

The difference in Kwame Brown and Ben Wallace is that the Hornets would only have to pay $5 million in salary to Brown as opposed to Wallace’s $14 million contract this year. They would save $9 million immediately as well as getting a serviceable post player. Yet, there could be something that few know about Chandler and the potential other variables are in the Tyson Chandler sweepstakes.
