An Early 2010 NBA Finals Prediction

The week before the NBA Draft and the week after the NBA Finals ends is possibly the slowest week in any NBA fans lives. Things you have been putting off to do around the house, at work, with your spouse, etc. will all be accomplished more than likely over the next few days. When you get back around to reading LayupDrill.com(because you need your daily fix, of course), then you will see we are staying on top of each and every story that is hitting the wire.

I thought in the spirit of fun, I would go on record today, before any blockbuster trades go down, before any teams make draft picks that will alter the season, before any season ending injuries, or Lebron to New York talk sparks up(yet again), and early 2009-10 NBA Finals Matchup Prediction.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics

Yeah, I really went out on a limb on this one. I make predictions based on facts, not emotion, so fans in Cleveland, Orlando, Houston, or Denver, don’t get mad at me. As of right now, June 19th, 2009, these two teams(if healthy) are in the best shape to match up for the NBA title.

As currently constructed, the Lakers should be the favorites to get out of the West again this season. There are plenty of questions that will need to be answered, and as stated above, this is all based on assumption. In the East, don’t let the Orlando Magic media crush fog your decision making. Sure, the domination the Magic displayed on Cleveland was impressive, but this Magic team also was forced to seven games against a Celtics team without their best player. Kevin Garnett is as important to the the Celtics as Pau Gasol is to the Lakers. In fact, I would go further to say that if Gasol goes down with an injury that Garnett has, the Lakers lose to the Nuggets. If Kevin Garnett is healthy, Boston repeats.

We will have to see if K.G is able to heal completely from his knee surgery, and if Boston is able to bring in some pieces to help the Big 3. There will, of course, be many more breakdowns, predictions, and previews of next season in the coming months, but for now, let’s have fun with this one.

You say the Magic was forced to seven games against a Celtics team without their best player, but you don’t point out that the magic also had a man down. Jameer Nelson was out on a shoulder injury. Nelson may not be the magic’s best player but he is definitely worth mentioning.

I agree with this. If the Celts can stay healthy and Rasheed comes to camp motivated, this is our most likely matchup. However, if LA loses Odom to free agency….this changes everything. I can see Denver coming out of the West if that happens. Portland is still young and scary. But realistically, yes, I say Celts and Lakers.

Shaq is a worthless pickup for Cleveland. Maybe if they’d have done this in 04 or something. But he’s way past his prime. Nobody is afraid of a 37 year old Shaq in 2009. Sorry, Cavs fans.

In Respects to both of you yes Boston will come out of the East, with Garnett, sorry Orlando even with vince eastern conference in game possible 7. But Bottom line Boston comes out with rasheed pierce allen big baby, rondo omg, but to say they will beat the Lakers, not as easily like in 2008 lakers have matured gasol is more dominated kobe more matured ron artest, defense , odom derek fisher, bynum if gets act together and bench it will go down to Game 7 I would luv for lakers to win could go either way Boston vs L.A NBA Finals 2010 like all the way
Artest vs rasheed, pierce vs kobe, gasol, big baby davis derek fisher, rondo perkins bynum this will be a classic I hope this will be a thriller and a great show hope for all ages like celts and lakers of 80′s

Everyone has been way to obsessed with the laker/celtic rivalry, orlando is more than capable of taking down boston and repeating to the finals, but what are they gonna do when they get there and the lakers wait for them again, vince carter doesnt add the defense they need, matt barnes cant defend kobe, Cleveland could beat boston as well they added Leon Powe and player that has that nice inside scoop on whats going on with the plays thats a nice advantage. I would look out for the bulls to make an upset to. Maybe not make it to the finals or anything but they are gonna be a suprise team.

after watching about half of this season i know that Boston cannot even get to the championship without garnett, pierce, allen, rondo, and perk all healthy….. and for the lakers they better hope that kobe doesant have any major injuries or the lakers will lose to Denver going into the championship….. But with everyone healthy i say it will be a lakers celtics NBA championship.

Celtics over lakers in 7

Cleveland might have something to say about this prediction after all…

Who isn’t picking the Lakers & Celtics?? That’s what all the refs want because of Tim Douaughey. + the only reason the Lakers are always good, is because they can rip the living shit off of other teams in extremely unfair trades because their the lakers, that’s why my Pacers will not make trades with them. Hints Paul Gassol for Kwamie Brown and 2 first round picks=Jamaal Tinsley & 2 first round picks from the Pacers (top 25 protected) & Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant=Jeff Foster fro the Pacers to the Nets for John Wall in the up and coming draft. And why do the Lakers get away with shitty trades like this well the answer is simple, it’s only because their the Lakers. And now idiot Lakers fans are actually calling the trade of Shaq for Lamar Odem, Bryan Grant, & Karan Butler unfair. Please, everyone knows Lakers fans were upset about that trade, because it was equal and didn’t heavily favor their team & the fact that the Lakers were actually dumb enough to trade Karan Butler for Kwamie Brown blows my mind.
