The morning after the Orlando Magic took a commanding 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals, I checked out both ends of the fan spectrum. First, the joyous fans and commenters on ThirdQuarterCollapse.com were breaking down the historical odds that are now stacked up against the Cavs. In case you don’t know, only 8 teams in NBA History have come back from down 3-1 to win the series. That is a record of 8-182 since 1947 to be exact. Something that just doesn’t happen often.
On the other end, the loyal Cleveland supporters at RealCavsFans.com were rallying behind their team online, encouaging each other that things can, and will turn around for this team of destiny. One thing I know for certain, if the Cavs come back from down 3-1 and win 3 in a row in a series they really could have been swept in, I would be shocked. Then again, as my partner Justin told me, NOTHING in the NBA should shock me.
The conversation that Justin and I had became more conspiracy theory/script out of a WWE title match than sport. Of course, this sport had a ref that was crooked and outed, so…..
Below is a scenario of some funny things that could happen on the way to the Cavs going to the NBA Finals.
1. Win Game 5 at home.
The Cavaliers certainly don’t want to have their season end in front of their home crowd, and I don’t see anyway that the Cavs lose.
2. Game Six Screwjob.
Orlando would then return to home for Game 6 with all the pressure on them to win that game. Cleveland would have the confidence of winning on the road, and this game, like just about every other one, would come down to the final moments. Even though Dwight Howard’s technical foul was rescinded earlier today, that doesn’t mean another botched call by the refs in a critical moment will cost the Magic the game. For fans of the WWE, you remember this:
I know this is funny, and pretty extreme, but you get the point. Could you imagine Lebron James getting fouled on a missed last second 3 pointer on a questionable call. Lebron nails all 3 shots, and sends the Cavs back home for a deciding Game 7.
3. Cavs blow out a deflated Magic team in Game 7. Fresh off two blown elimination games, the Magic enter a renewed, re-energized Cavs team shoots lights out from beyond the arc, and never trails in a double digit victory.
