Lost in the mix of great NBA Playoff games from nearly all of the series came three series last night that have been forgettable. The Lakers put the Jazz out of their misery for good, and the Hawks beat down the Heat in Miami. However, the Hornets losing by 58 points to the Nuggets at home tied the worst loss in NBA Playoff history by points. I had a chance to watch every minute of that beat down, and that was without question a team that looked like they quit on their coach.
Chris Paul, who many had in talks for the MVP, has not had a good series at all, and yesterday was a new low. CP3 was held to 4 points and had as many assists as turnovers(6). After the game, Paul said “We were embarrassed.” That understatement will carry them into game 5, where the Hornets face elimination down 3-1 and on the road. This was a team that some thought could challenge for the NBA Title this year, yet after this series is over, the franchise will have to take a long, hard look at the direction they are going.
In other news, the S.A. Express News reports this morning that tonight could be the last time we see Bruce Bowen in a Spurs uniform. Though Bowen is not a free agent this summer, San Antonio could buy Bowen out of his current contract, in which they would only have to pay the veteran $2 million of the $4 million he is owed. If they do that, expect San Antonio to go younger and cheaper, and Bowen to try to latch on to another title contender out West.
