I have been a fan of College Basketball for over 20 years, and since my days growing up in New Jersey, I was a fan of the Syracuse Orangemen. Back when they had Billy Owens, Sherman Douglas, etc. I have seen the Orange play great games, and stars like John Wallace, Lawrence Moten, Carmelo Anthony, and Gerry McNemarra make great memories playing in the Carrier Dome or in the Garden for the Big East title. However, after watching last night’s Syracuse-UConn classic, I was reminded why I love the college basketball postseason.
The UConn Huskies, who already have a number 1 seed wrapped up in the NCAA tournament, and had seen their nemesis, the Pitt Panthers, knocked out by West Virginia earlier in the day. The effort given by A.J. Price, Hasheem Thabeet, and the rest of the Huskies you thought it was the national championship on the line last night. Syracuse, meanwhile, was already a lock for the NCAA tourney, but when you play in the Garden, it’s different.

When they say neither team deserved to lose, they were talking about six overtime Big East tournament games. Rick Pitino probably didn’t stay up to see the Huskies lose, but the Louisville Cardinals(my preseason pick to win it all) are now the clear favorite to survive and outlast everyone else to win the Big East tournament, and steal a number 1 seed.
