Louisville vs. Michigan State
Midwest Regional Preview
A LayupDrill.com Exclusive
The number 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Louisville Cardinals, were my preseason pick to win the national title months ago. Though, at times, that pick wasn’t the popular one among the major media outlets, I simply did the eyeball test, and realized the combination of the coach in the country(Rick Pitino), with the best talent from top to bottom in the country(the roster), and that’s a mix that will be hard to beat in March. While Tom Izzo has done an excellent job with his overachieving Spartans this year, and it would be a great story if Michigan State could play in Ford Field as the home team for their fans, they unfortunately will see their season end today.
Terrance Williams and Earl Clark will keep Izzo’s bench busy all day today, as both players have a knack at getting their defenders in foul trouble. When taking a look at the teams that have been able to slow down the Cardinals this year, the one consistent theme has been tempo. When UConn defeated Louisville earlier this year, Hasheem Thabeet dominated the paint, and the Huskies imposed their will. Notre Dame also ran Pitino’s crew out the gym some weeks back, and the Irish were clicking on all cylinders, dominating the game on both ends. If the Spartans can keep this game in the 50-60 point range, it will be anyone’s game late. I just don’t think they can.
Louisville 71
Michigan State 64
