Just when you think you can figure out the Nets, this leaks out. The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the New Jersey Nets have been in “preliminary talks” with the Cavaliers, Spurs, Bulls, and Raptors(ironically) about the potential of moving the former Slam Dunk champion in the days leading up to the All-Star break. Carter, who is owed over $33 Million dollars on his contract over the next two seasons, is more likely to land in Cleveland of the four places, as the Cavs are interested in dumping Wally Szczerbiak along with Delonte West. The Spurs would have to part with Roger Mason Jr along with Michael Finley and Bruce Bowen. Before you rule out that deal, the Nets may actually help the Spurs. New Jersey would more than likely cut both Bowen or Finley after a trade, which would clear the way for one or both of them to return to the Spurs before the playoff rosters are set. So, in essence, the Spurs would get Carter for just Roger Mason. Stay tuned…

In other news, Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith is apparently not done talking trades this season. After acquiring Tyronn Lue earlier this week for Keith Bogans, the Magic may still be interested in securing the point guard spot by re-visiting the Jamaal Tinsley talks with Indiana’s management. Of course, there is always the potential to bring in another veteran point guard as well.

In good news out of Charlotte, the Bobcats will see forward Gerald Wallace back on the floor after the All-Star break. Wallace told the Charlotte Observer yesterday he did not think the foul by Andrew Bynum that sidelined him was intentional. Wallace has begun working out again to regain conditioning, and hopes to be on the floor practicing next week for the first time since the injury on January 27th.

In Amare Stoudemire news, more rumors swirl around potential suitors for the All-Star forward. The Detroit News reports this morning that Detroit may offer Rasheed Wallace for Amare, while other teams interested include Chicago, Sacramento, Memphis, and Portland. Phoenix has not been able to get what they want in form of a package from any of the teams listed, so until a team sweetens the pot on their offer, Amare may wind up staying in Phoenix. The Nets may also get in the Amare sweepstakes, offering up Yi Jianlian, Bobby Simmons and a number 1 pick for Stoudemire.
