Kobe Bryant was a man possessed tonight in Madison Square Garden. Playing in the World’s Most Famous Arena seems to be a rite of passage for all of the all-time greats, and Kobe, following the footsteps of the best to ever do it, always steps his game up against the Knicks.

Tonight was no different, as he scorched the Knicks defenders for 61 points on 19-31 shooting, in a 126-117 victory. Kobe’s 61 set a new record for most points scored by an opponent in MSG, breaking the record formerly held by Michael Jordan. Kobe could do no wrong tonight, as he went a perfect 20 for 20 from the free throw line, and seemed to toy with the defenders all night, while playing to the crowd who cheered him on.

As for the Knicks, the team whom I said in my Monday Morning Point Guard column today was this week’s team to watch, part 1 of the the headed monster of a week is done, and as predicted, a loss was recorded.
They did have one highlight though:

As for Kobe, he talked to the media before the game about the extent of Andew Bynums injury, and what the Lakers will have to do to survive.
