With the NFL Superbowl now in the books, the eyes and ears of media outlets and casual sports fans alike will now turn to the NBA, where the league is enjoying one of the best regular seasons in some time. While many die-hards have been checking for LayupDrill.com every single day now, we realize there are many that are finding us for the first time all the time. In case you haven’t been paying attention to the NBA season thus far, here are the top five storylines you have missed.
1. The East is top heavy.
The Celtics, Cavaliers, and Magic have seperated themselves from the rest of the pack in their pursuit for homecourt advantage in the playoffs and the league’s best overall record. While each team has shown stretches of greatness, it will be a very exciting end of the regular season to see who rises to the top.
2. The MVP race is wide open.
Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and Kobe Bryant all will garner attention leading into the stretch run of the season for the Most Valuable Player award, and all have valid arguments as to why they should be the MVP.
3. This years rookies are very good.
Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo, Rudy Fernandez, Russell Westbrook, and Michael Beasley are just a few of the many rookies that have impressed throughout this young season.
4. This years trade deadline could be more active than last years.
Last season we saw Jason Kidd and Shaquille O’Neal, two future Hall of Famers, move out West in desperate moves by the Mavericks and Suns to remain relevant. It doesn’t look like it has worked for either team, but it doesn’t mean that we will not see other franchises attempt to bring in a big name.
5. Josh Smith posterizing Steve Nash was one of the sickest dunks I have seen.
No words can describe this one, but it is my play of the year so far.
Team to Watch This Week: New York Knicks
The Knicks, who are playing their best ball of the season right now, have three big home games this week. The Celtics, Cavs, and Lakers all come to the garden this week in games that New York will surely sell out and have the nation watching to see how good Coach D’Antoni’s team is.
