Earlier today, I asked what Hawks team would show up. The Hawks should have defeated the Boston Celtics tonight. Make no mistake, for the first 38 minutes of the game, Atlanta was the better team. Boston then did what all great champions do, and that is systematically take your heart away. The two teams traded incredible plays with each other for most of the 4th quarter, with Josh Smith of Atlanta posterizing Kendrick Perkins to tie the game at 77.
Down the stretch, the young Hawks missed some crucial free throws, and Rajon Rondo calmly led his team in the final minutes to retake the lead. Joe Johnson, who was nowhere to be found in the first 3 quarters, came alive in the 4th as well. Yet it was Johnson, who with a chance to tie the game at the free throw line in the closing seconds, choked and made only 1 of 2. In the end, the champs made the clutch plays when the game was on the line, and the Celtics survived another close game against the Hawks to extend their winning streak to 16. Atlanta coach Mike Woodson needs to do his best Denny Green impersonation in the postgame interview, because they let the champs off the hook.
Am I the only one who can’t wait till the Christmas Day Lakers/Celtics game?

Anyone think the Celtics will lose a game the rest of 2008? I got a friend willing to bet $100 on the Lakers Christmas Night
By the way that Dennis Green postgame is still my favorite sports interview ever!
The way they are playing, it looks like they won’t. But like the popular saying goes “all good things must come to an end”. Just don’t know who it will be! LOL. Maybe Cleveland.
The one thing going against Boston is age. The Bulls defied the odds in the mid 90s as they kept winning and winning and winning even when they had home court locked up. We will see if Boston can do the same.
