Did anyone think the Lakers were gonna go 81-1? I said a few weeks ago the Lakers would head into the Christmas Day game vs. The Celtics with 3 losses, well, its December 2nd, and they have number 2. In what was a classic game down till the end, Troy Murphy and Danny Granger led the young Pacers past the Lakers 118-117 on a tip in by Murphy at the buzzer. The Pacers crowd was in the game the entire night, at times having the feel of a playoff game from the roars that came from my TV.
Though Indiana is only 7-10, they definitely are showing signs of promise, and this is T.J. Ford’s team. Without the help of the inactive Jamaal Tinsley or Mike Dunleavy, The Pacers put together a total team effort to beat LA. Kobe Bryant did his thing as usual, dropping 28. Pau Gasol chipped in with 20 and Bynum gave his solid 17 point/9 rebound performance, but the Lakers failed to deliver that knockout blow when they had Indiana down in the 3rd and 4th quarter.
The Lakers next four games are at Philly, at Washington, home to the Bucks, and at Sacramento. They should improve to 18-2. Indiana has a much tougher go at it, with two games against Boston, and road games vs. Cleveland and Toronto in their next four. Good Luck.
