Tonight the Portland Trailblazers (15-10) hosted the Sacramento Kings (7-18). The Kings were looking for their second straight victory under interim Head Coach Kenny Natt. For the Blazers the story was Brandon Roy. Roy was an all-star last year and has taken his game to an even higher level this season. Tonight the Kings were overmatched by a better team. The Blazers would win an easy one 109-77. In the second quarter Bobby Jackson received two quick technical fouls and was ejected from the game. From that point the Blazers went on a 17-3 run and led at the half 54-42.
Brandon Roy had an incredible 19 points at the half on just six shots, including 13/13 on free throws. Roy was unstoppable and able to get to the rim at will. John Salmons led the Kings with 21 first half points of his own. There was an extended halftime in this game. The Blazers held a ceremony to raise the jersey of number 30 Terry Porter to the rafters. Several past teammates and coaches were in attendance. The Blazers pulled away in the third quarter behind the continued dominance of Brandon Roy and led 81-60 going into the fourth quarter. Roy made an amazing defensive play near the end of the quarter. The Kings’ Francisco Garcia broke out on a steal and appeared to have a clear path to an easy dunk. Roy caught him from behind and picked his pocket, turning it the other way and leading to a Blazers score at the other end.
Greg Oden also had a huge dunk on top of the porous Kings defense. The Blazers would close out and win going away. Roy finished with a game high 29 points despite sitting out the fourth quarter. The Kings will next visit the Houston Rockets on Friday night.
