10 Burning Questions to Start the College Basketball Season
With the College Basketball season underway with its many kickoff tournaments across the country, LayupDrill.com presents the 10 questions we know all college hoops fans have on their mind. In case you haven’t, make sure you check out our College Basketball Preview.
10. Is the Big East really that good?
Anytime you see the AP Poll have a conference with 4 of its top 10 in it, thats pretty dominant. Many media experts project 2 or 3 Big East teams to break through to Detroit in April. I personally believe 2 will make it there as well, but that will be answered later. As for how many make the NCAA Tournament, I am going to go with 9.
9. Will Tyler Hansborough’s early injury hurt UNC at all?
No. The Tar Heels can actually benefit early on by playing without their player of the year candidate. This allows Roy Williams the ability to play some younger players, experiment with his rotation, and even if they take a few early losses, it may help them down the road when they are deep in conference play.
8. Who will CBS show more of in March, Stephen Curry, or his mom in the stands?
Depending on who is answering this question, your choice will be different. One thing is for sure, Curry is the truth. It will be interesting to see how Stephen adjusts to his new point guard duties.
7. Who will be Arizona’s next head coach?
With Lute Olson resigning abruptly, the Wildcats now face life after a legend. That usually equates to a rough season, and it hasnt even begun yet in the desert.
6. Will Duke be able to make it to the Final Four?
The Blue Devil fans have been restless the past couple seasons, as first round scares, and second round exits in the NCAA Tournament for a team ranked usually in the top 10 isnt acceptable. Coach K brings in a lot of young talent this year, and they should be able to regroup to make it to the Sweet 16.
5. Whos the Best team in the SEC?
The highest ranked team in the preseason are the Vols of Tennesee, but it will be Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators that wind up SEC Champs at the end of the year. Expect the Gators to surprise many nationally, and grab a 2 seed in March.
4. The Beast of the Big East will be….
Louisville. Rick Pitino has arguably his most talented class of Cardinals since he arrived there. It will not be easy at all, but Louisville will wind up the champions of the best conference in America.
3. Can UCLA make the Final Four again?
Yes they can. That is a popular phrase right now, and one Bruins fans can rely on. Freshman Jrue Holiday is one of the best newcomers in the nation, and UCLA is prime to make a deep run in March again.
2. Who is the sleeper team to look out for this year?
Well, I gave you one earlier in Florida, but here are two more. Villanova and Kentucky. Both of these Wildcat teams come in picked somewhere in the middle of the pack of their respective conferences. Both of these traditional powerhouses expect to make the NCAA Tournament, but both will overachieve, and will end up somewhere in the middle of the top 15 at the end of the year.
1. Who is going to win it all?
This is where if I was playing the safe bet, I would bet on the most talented team in America, The UNC Tar Heels. Truth be told, if they played a best 4 out of 7, Carolina would be anyone in the country. March Madness is different though, and for some strange reason, crazy things happen. Rick Pitino is long overdue to hoist the trophy up one more time, and somehow, someway, Louisville will walk out of Detriot as the champs.
