NBA Fights

Fighting and Basketball is nothing new. The emotion of wanting to win sometimes spills over, and things can get ugly. Real ugly. LayupDrill.com takes a look at some of the most memorable incidents in recent NBA history, from the one – on – one shadow boxing matches, to all out royal rumbles.

Nuggets vs. Knicks – December 2006
This infamous brawl in MSG came at the end of an otherwise impressive Denver win. J.R. Smith of the Nuggets was fouled by the Knicks Mardy Collins, and that set everything off. Most memorable about this brawl was all star Carmelo Anthony connecting on a nice sucker punch, then back pedaling all the way back to Colorado.

Carmelo Anthony – suspended 15 games

Pacers vs. Pistons – November 2004

Perhaps the most infamous fight in not only NBA history, but all of professional sports came four season ago. The Pacers, Pistons, and fans got involved in a fight that had chairs getting tossed, beer, ice, and popcorn coming down on players, and a serious black eye coming to the league’s fan friendly image. The Pacers, led by Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, and Jermaine O Neal, never truly recovered as a team after that, and today none of them remain with the franchise.

Ron Artest – suspended 73 games(remainder of season)
Stephen Jackson – suspended 30 games
Jermaine O Neal – suspended 15 games

Blazers vs Warriors – December 2002

Bonzi Wells(then of Portland) got into it with Golden State’s Chris Mills as the game ended. Both benches got into it, and once again, the crowd became involved, throwing beer at the visiting Blazers. Rasheed Wallace tried to enter the stands to go after a fan who hit him with a beer. Some local media outlets in Portland shortly after tagged the team as the ‘JailBlazers’.

Chris Mills – suspended 3 games
Bonzi Wells – suspended 2 games

Marcus Camby vs. Danny Ferry – January 2001

Danny Ferry, who many felt acted without being provoked, poked Camby in the eye. Camby threw a wild punch at Ferry, which did not land. This fight perhaps is most memorable due to Jeff Van Gundy jumping in between the two, and getting the worst out of it. Van Gundy needed 15 stitches to close up a cut above his eye.

Marcus Camby – 5 games
Danny Ferry – 1 game

You didn’t go back far enough. The ultimate was the two piece Chris Childs landed on Kobe’s face, lol!!!! Oh yeah, who could forget the fights between the Knicks and Heat or the Bulls and Pistons (the original bad boys-Mahorn, Rodman, Thomas, Lambeer, Dumars, Salley) LOL

Lol funny you brought up the Chris Childs fight. I was going to add that one in, but the Camby/Danny Ferry fight edged it out, only because the coach got injured more than both players.

Nice list. Better fights that the enormous shoves Shaq gave Yao and T-Mac the other night
